PARENTS AND STUDENTS OF THE CAPRICE SCHOOL OF BALLET

Regretfully and with much sadness, I wish to announce that The Caprice School of Ballet is closing, effective immediately.
The last two years have been an enormous struggle, largely due to Covid, significantly declining student numbers and ever increasing studio rent.

I feel that I can, realistically, only give the school 70% now instead of the 100% it needs to project into any sort of productive future.
I am no longer able to continue with the teaching or the workload required, as it continues to become increasingly stressful.
This decision has not been taken lightly.
The school is now in its’ twenty first year.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the amazing teachers who have worked for me at one time or another since 2004. You have been nothing short of phenomenal.
Also, to the wonderfully loyal families who have supported me over the journey, and for the incredible and many friendships that have been forged throughout the years.
Lastly, to all the extraordinary students who have passed through the school; you have been a joy to teach.
I hope that all of our lovely students will continue their dancing journey for many years to come, and I would like to think that the legacy we have given them is a lasting love of all things dance.

Thank you again to everyone.
It has been the best and most remarkable ride.

Miss Marilyn.

Styles

Dance is unique in that it is simultaneous in movement, thought and feeling, and is an extension of the child’s natural movement.

Classical Ballet

Classical Ballet provides the basis for most other styles of dance. Its origins date back 500 years and it has evolved as a highly regarded art form over time. It is a very technical style of dance that provides students with the foundations of correct posture, musicality, muscle strength, and co ordination.

Jazz

Jazz originated from African tribal dance. It is a dance form that changes with the music and influences of the time. Jazz is a fun and energetic style of dance and lends itself to dynamic movement.

Tap

Tap dancing emerged as a popular dance style in the late 1800’s. Recently, groups such as the Tap Dogs have increased its popularity. Tap is an excellent way to develop rhythm and timing and is also a fantastic way to get fit.

Contemporary

Contemporary is an exploratory, lyrical style of dance which encompasses a freer and more fluid movement dynamic. Contemporary classes involve a thorough stretching routine as a warm up.
